Introducing a 3v3 tournament at the top level is something we have wanted to do for sometime. The time is right to make this happen and we are really excited at the opportunity and potential this brings for our sport. 3v3 hockey is a chance for us to showcase the speed and skill of our game in a fast, exciting format that we believe will appeal to not only our players, but more more importantly to our fans.

We intend to use this event to explore ways to better engage with our audience and we will be tweaking the rule book so there is more action and less stoppages.

It is shaping up to be a really exciting weekend, and one which we intend to build on with a women’s 3v3 event in 2025.

The 2024 Super Showdown will feature all six NZIHL teams as they face off in 3v3 tournament style play. There will be three events over the two days and, with six games per event, it will be an action packed weekend of hockey. The tournament will consist of a five game round robin followed by finals. Don’t miss the flair of 3v3 hockey as the best players in the country take to the ice in what should be super-fast, high scoring games.
